About IO Software

IO Software was founded on April 1, 1983 in what is now the Dort Mall at the corner of S. Dort Hwy. and Atherton Rd. in Flint, Michigan when it was called the Small Mall and later the Mid-America Plaza.  A second location opened shortly afterwards in the Carman Plaza on Corunna Road at I-75.  At that time, IO Software sold computer software exclusively for the popular home computers at that time including the Commodore VIC-20 and 64, the Apple IIe and the Atari 400/800.  As personal computer technology changed, the inventory mix at IO Software changed as well.  With the introduction by IBM of their personal computer using Intel processors and Microsoft operating systems, other computer companies began making computers using the same hardware and software as the IBM PC.

Maintenance issues at the Corunna Road location led IO Software to move the west side location to Miller Road in the Yorkshire Plaza just west of I-75 where it is today.  The much smaller Dort Highway location closed.

As the years progressed, IO Software became less of a software store and more of a computer hardware store selling and serving desktop and laptop PCs.  The computer towers IO Software sells are built to customer specifications inside the store using standard components available most anywhere so there is no need to worry about parts availability for upgrades and repairs as the components are not proprietary to one brand.

IO Software builds desktop computers the way you want them.  Give us the specifications and we will provide a free estimate for a computer built to those specs.
